Case Study: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Getting Closer to a Cure

There is a wealth of medical research available to doctors via MEDLINE, the National Library of Medicine's database. The problem is too much information: as a matter of fact, since 1966 over 10 million publications have been issued on the subject of cancer research.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering, a hospital at the forefront of cancer treatment, decided it was time to impose their critical review and assist their doctors in their searches. They developed an Evidence-Based Oncology database containing only the best published information and asked Blue Iceberg to assist them in making the database available to their audience. We created an intranet website to act as an interface for the database and architected a user-friendly search interface to maximize the usefulness and usability of the data.

The result: Sloan Kettering doctors can spend more time concentrating on effective therapies rather than having to sift through medical journals for relevant information-- with tangible and life-enhancing benefits for their patients.
